TOY DONATIONS

Smiling woman holding a box of colorful toys.

One day, while working as an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant, I had to instill dilation drops in the eyes of a young patient of mine. (For context, these drops are not favorable by most children or adults.) Unfortunately, this resulted in a not-so-good first eye care experience for him.

Although a necessary procedure, I felt extremely bad. So much so, I requested permission to do a store-run, so I could purchase a few "apology" gifts for him. (I chose to buy his favorite character, Sonic, along with a coloring book and colored pencils.)

I made it back in time to present the gifts, prior to doctor arriving into the room. The moment he saw Sonic, a smile spread across his face and blush filled his cheeks. And for the remainder of the time, his eye care experience was a little less terrifying.

He left with the biggest and most adorable smile that melted my heart. (And I gained a new friend that day.)

Seeing how happy this made him prompted me to find a way to make the eye care experience a little better for other kiddos, whom would visit the office. Ultimately, I decided to introduce a FREE "treasure" box to the office; filled with bubbles, chalk, play dough, stickers, and more- which children could pick from.

Now, I am working to introduce more toy boxes to various offices around my hometown.

Stay tuned!
